Case description
This left mandibular 3rd molar has quite a distinct morphology, which was accentuated by the operation of the SAF.
The anatomical features of this root canal are accentuated by the operation of the self-adjusting file:
- The lateral canals were blocked by the sealer, thanks to the continuous irrigation that washed away the smear plugs that usually block the entrance to such root canals.
- The curvatures of this root canal resenble a "Coca-Cola" bottle, as they present alternating tapers, including a negative taper at some point, and it is clear how the SAF was able to clean this irregular morphology very well in a minimally-invasive way, by adapting to the shape of the root canal and scrubbing them. This allowed to avoid excessive removal of sound dentin.
