Case description
This case from January 2011, of a right mandibular 1st molar, demonstrates some of the classical attributes of this type of root canals, and how the SAF handles them well:
- Note how the mesial canals connect at the apical third (as happens in 50% of the cases, according to research). The SAF was able to clean the isthmus between the canals very well, thanks to the continuous NaOCl irrigation, thus allowing the gutta-percha to fil this area. This is illustrated well in the angulated c-ray photo.
- See how the distal canal's oval shape is demonstrated by the x-rays from two angles. This shows how the SAF is able to clean the 3D morphology of the root canals in a minimally-invasive way, preserving as much sound dentin as possible.
